The Untold Story

Eyes craving mercy, while lips parted in agony
Shivers of cold fear tingling their spines
As their freedom they reluctantly bade farewell
Ears smoking of horror as like libidinous he-goats
They were tethered, their bare bodies shackled

Pain engaged them with mocking malice
Like an empty drum their bellies beat noisily
Notes of irregular frequencies they made as
On their foreheads, a white hand
Inscribed strange names: his tribal marks

Herds of Men beaten along by a Fulani rod
As beyond the Point of no Return they were led
Human merchandise lain one atop another
Ruefully they watched the motherland fade
As they sojourn into the land of the unknown

Centuries of throes passed till with art
The spirit of mankind loosened their cuff
Aeons of time after, their scions still wail
Lamenting the suffering of their ancestors
Their failings adduced to happenings of time past

The buyers we have much maligned
The sellers we have spared, their inhumanity ignored
For a gourd of strong liquor, hides or gunpowder
They traded their kinsmen, may the sellers be despised! Their descendants acquire dry eyes:both sinned.
