The Bank Alert

You were so hungry you were convinced by the sounds coming from your stomach that the worms there were angrily rapping. However there was nothing you could do about it as you had fifty naira in your purse and an 8:00am class to attend. You dragged your feet to class, mentally debating on whether to ask a friend for transport money to go come or be nicer to your bunkie who had made a pot of jollof rice the day before. "Nobody is at home sef", you remembered. You decided on the latter and headed to class. In class, you tried to concentrate but the lecturer's words entered your ear and vaporized through the other ear like methylated spirit on a wound. You sat still, stiffening your facial muscles as if you understood everything. Then you remembered that Buka 7 was owing you 70 naira worth of change. Ah!!! That Sunday you bought beans and bread. Your friend is equally owing you 200 naira too but she seems to develop selective amnesia every time you see her. You must collect your money in full, you concluded. Then to pour sulphuric acid on a wound, your course rep announced that there were new materials again. You grumbled and decided to put that off till the following week. Then the classes were over, you were in your room lying on your bed and your phone rang. It was an unknown number. You picked thinking it was one of your annoying friends that could never use their airtime to call you. It was Uncle Segun. You greeted him with the thoughts of "What does my stingy Uncle want?". Your thoughts were structured that way because Uncle Segun had a reputation for being as tightfisted as a two year old clutching a pack of biscuits. He asked for your account details and you gave them. You hoped that he would send 1000 naira. That would be enough for okro soup for the week. Five minutes later, you got an alert for 10 000 naira. You screamed, surely your God was alive. Your roommates gave you that "Wetin dey do this one?" look but you knew they would never understand. God works miracles in mysterious ways through bank alerts.
